Purpose
1. The purpose of this modification is to provide a means of draining entrapped water or oil from the transmission bell housing and also to provide an inspection port into the bell housing.
When Modification Shall Be Embodied
2. Modification shall be embodied on receipt of this instruction.
Installations Affected
3. The installation affected is the transmission Bell Housing Assembly.
Equipment/Materiel Affected
4. The equipment affected is all Trucks, Utility, Light, Iltis, Canadian series.
Training Aids Affected
5. NA.
By Whom Work Shall Be Performed
6. Work shall be performed by first line maintenance organizations. Unit without resources shall request second line maintenance services.
Resources Required
7. The following resources are required:
a. Manpower - Veh Tech 411 - 0.5 man-hour.
b. Downtime - 0.5 hour.
c. Materiel Required - The following item is required:

Modification of Spare Items
9. All stock vehicles will be modified, by Base Maintenance Organizations, prior to issue.
Modification Embodiment Procedures
10. To modify the transmission bell housing proceed as follows:
a. On the underside of the transmission bell housing, draw a centreline along the bell housing centre web, see Figure 1.
b. Measure and drill a 3/4 inch diameter hole in the right side of the bell housing, so the hole centre is 3-1/2 inches from the front edge of the bell housing and 2-1/2 inches from the centreline of the housing web, see Figure 1.
c. Clean and smooth the drilled hole edge using a half round file.
d. Install the new rubber plug securely into the drilled hole.

12. Mark out number 5 on the “Modification Record” plate.

13. On completion, report on work order Form 1020 in accordance with C-04-025-001/AG-00 - Annex F.
