1.The purpose of this modification is to provide a means of draining entrapped water or oil from the transmission bell housing and also to provide an inspection port into the bell housing.

2.Modification shall be embodied on receipt of this instruction.

3.The installation affected is the transmission Bell Housing Assembly.

4.The equipment affected is all Trucks, Utility, Light, Iltis, Canadian series.

6.Work shall be performed by first line maintenance organizations. Unit without resources shall request second line maintenance services.

7.The following resources are required:

  1. Manpower — Veh Tech 411 — 0.5 man-hour.
  2. Downtime — 0.5 hour.
  3. Materiel Required - The following item is required:

9.All stock vehicles will be modified, by Base Maintenance Organizations, prior to issue.

10.To modify the transmission bell housing proceed as follows:

  1. On the underside of the transmission bell housing, draw a centreline along the bell housing centre web, see Figure 1.
  2. Measure and drill a 3/4 inch [~19 mm] diameter hole in the right side of the bell housing, so the hole centre is 3-1/2 inches [~89 mm] from the front edge of the bell housing and 2-1/2 inches [~64 mm] from the centreline of the housing web, see Figure 1.
  3. Clean and smooth the drilled hole edge using a half round file.
  4. Install the new rubber plug securely into the drilled hole.
