The VW 521/8 is a locking sleeve that can be used:

in conjuction with VW 521/4 and a torque gauge to measure the carrier turning torque,
in conjunction with VW 387, VW 388, VW 521/4, dial gauge extension VW 382/10, and a dial gauge to measure the crown gear backlash in transaxle,
in conjunction with VW 387, VW 388, VW 521/4, dial gauge extension VW 382/10, and a dial gauge to measure the crown gear backlash in rear differential.
