The VW 387 is a general purpose dial gauge bracket that can be used:

• in conjunction with VW 385/17 and a dial gauge to measure the carrier axial play,
• in conjunction with VW 385/17, a threaded rod (or VW 294b/3), and a dial gauge to measure pinion axial play,
• in conjunction with VW 388, VW 521/4, VW521/8, dial gauge extension VW 382/10, and a dial gauge to measure the crown gear backlash in transaxle,
• in conjunction with VW 388, VW 521/4, VW521/8, dial gauge extension VW 382/10, and a dial gauge to measure the crown gear backlash in rear differential.
