The VW 385/30 is an adjustable master gauge that can be used:

in conjuction with VW 385/1, VW 385/14, VW 385/15, and a dial gauge to accurately measure and set the pinion gear depth in the transaxle,
in conjuction with VW 385/1, VW 385/14, VW 385/20, VW 385/3, VW 385/31, and a dial gauge to accurately measure and set the pinion gear depth in the rear differential.
